WATER CONDITIONERS

Beneficial Bacteria is a common additive to live systems for the startup or maintenance of the biofiltration process and to break down sludge. We have an excellent brand of bacteria which is labeled “Authorized for use by U.S.D.A. in federally inspected meat, fish, poultry, and egg production establishments”. Our bacteria are also Patented under U.S. Patent #3,963,576.
Designed primarily for use in Saltwater it will also work in Freshwater. Dosage rate for new system startup and for shock loading is 3 oz bacteria per 100 gallons of system water daily for 8 days or until ammonia and nitrite have been reduced to acceptable levels. A maintenance dose is recommended daily as two capfuls or 1 oz. A maintenance dose should be added daily for 8 days after water exchanges exceeding 20% of the system volume.Bacteria should be stored between 33° and 95° F. Use within 6 months after opening the bottle and shake well before each application. Produced and bottled in the USA.

TEST KITS

Test Kits are used to measure water quality parameters. The test results are then analyzed and used to make aquatic system management decisions. The most widely measured parameters are pH, Temperature, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Salinity and Dissolved Oxygen (DO). Most commercially developed live seafood systems always provide adequate DO levels so testing for DO is usually reserved for commercial systems. The remainder of the parameters can be measured with a thermometer and/or hydrometer (see below) or with our deluxe test kit which tests for pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate.
Our Deluxe test kit is designed for Saltwater use only and includes enough reagents to run 30 tests for the following parameters: pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate. Each test is run in a small vial which is then compared to a color chip on a water-resistant placard. The test directions are located on the back of this placard in an easy to understand format.
Test Range: pH 7.6-8.4, Ammonia .025-2.0 mg/l, Nitrite 0.1-1.0 mg/l, Nitrate 10-200 mg/lThe test results are accurate and are achieved within minutes. Made in the USA.

SALT

Salt Mix is the heart of most live seafood systems. We use Crystal Sea/Forty Fathoms brand because it is always consistent, dissolves fast, is EPA registered for use in aquatic testing facilities and has worked well for our R & D facility year after year. In addition to working well, it also removes chlorine, has been enriched with Calcium and Trace Elements and DOES NOT contain Nitrates or Phosphates which can lead to excessive algal blooms. 1 lb of salt mix makes 4 gallons of seawater to 1.023 SG. Blended in the USA. Ask about our pallet quantity discounts.

FILTER BAG

This very high quality nylon drawstring bag is designed to catch large solids as they pass into but not through the bag. The drawstring allows for easy installation to tie onto pipes or sides of tanks. This 800 micron filter bag can be used to hold activated carbon or other materials. Bag can be cleaned many times before replacement is necessary. Made in the USA.

FILTER

Blue and White filter pads are used as a mechanical filter to trap solids before penetrating the biofilter. Each system uses different sized pads. The most common sizes are listed below. If you want to stock up and/or cut your own you can choose from the FP8 (3′ x 8′) or the full roll 3′ x 90′. Made in the USA.

ACTIVATED CARBON

Activated Carbon is used as a water polisher. Activated Carbon removes chlorine, heavy metals and detoxifies ozone. Replacement times vary as there isn’t a good way to determine when the “collection” abilities of carbon have expired. It is a good idea to replace carbon on a calendar schedule. There are many variables as to what schedule to use but 3 months is generally accepted as an industry schedule. It is a good bet that if your carbon is all slimed over it is time to replace it. Fresh carbon will be dusty. Be sure to rinse the carbon before use or you may turn your water grey instead of crystal clear!
